The speculation about The Game Awards was significant, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious image of a strange statue. The question has now been solved. Larian Studios is working on a brand-new Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was showcased with a bold trailer that included memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the literal unleashing of hell.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio clarified that a direct sequel to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.
However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This distinction suggests that the team could be building a real-time experience as opposed to another tactical title. For now, it remains theory, as only a announcement clip is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it pioneered the recent resurgence of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, branching plots, and flexible progression—traits that subsequently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom granted to the player.
In contrast to modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities you can achieve if you're playing as a particular class or origin with a personal story.
The series is also notoriously flexible, enabling players to experiment throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be approached in diverse methods, sometimes in surprising fashion.
- You might find an answer because you heeded something an animal companion shared.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a inventive way.
More to Come
It is these creative systems that lead fans and critics to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games of all time. Now, the RPG community can get ready for a new entry in this legendary franchise.
